Yes , this is the same company that bought you 3G and 4G , the San Diego-based mobile chip giant : Qualcomm, which on Monday, announced the launch of the world’s first 5G modem, the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G at its 2016 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong.
The Snapdragon X50 5G modem platform will initially support operation in the 28 GHz millimeter wave band.
It can connect using up to 800 MHz of bandwidth via 8×100 MHz carrier aggregation. Using advanced multiple inputs, multiple output (MIMO) techniques such as adaptive beam-forming and beam tracking, the Snapdragon X50 5G modem can extend the range of mmWave transmissions to non-line-of-sight scenarios, and support mobility.
Now the main highlight here is that this super modem can reach up to 5 gigabits per second download speeds. That’s massive. This means that now you can beat the Airtel girl in a movie downloading competition.
And why just the Indian Network speeds. As per the reports published by Open Signal this year, the average 4G download speed in the United States is 9.9 megabits per second.
The much more predictable fact is that once this starts getting implemented by the cellular networks and they start offering phones the access to 5G speeds, we can witness much more creative ways in which the smartphones are going to evolve.
